Narrative of the Young Shepherd

Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially unadulterated, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to tend to his herd of rams.
Their gentle baas and the whispering of the gales across the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a notion of calm satisfaction.
But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. On one such day from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous plan.
Tales of wolves prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.
One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw no beast.
The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a few days more. But, one noon, a real wolf did attack the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.
The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to regain. It's a story here as relevant today as it was in the past.
